Mr. Smith Might Go to Austin

They say the two things you don't want to watch being made are sausage and law. I watched sausage being made a few years ago when we had our own bratwurst, complete with Amber Ale. That wasn't so bad, but then it was made with only good cuts of meat. Not whole hog, if you know what I mean.

Now we're going to try to change law. This seems a rather daunting task, especially since I've never done anything like this in my life. It will involve much cold calling - not my forte. In fact, I loathe it. .

All the microbreweries in the state are 100% behind us on this, so that's good. Of course, that was a no-brainer for any of us. Now we need to find legislators who feel the same way. I know they're out there, but our email list hasn't yet delivered any juicy connections to help us on our way. We can turn 600 people out for a pub crawl, but getting two people to come forward with connections, something akin to their personal capital, is more difficult. This personal capital that people acquire is tough to get them to part with.

So the calling will start tomorrow. I hope legislative aids are craft beer lovers! I'll let you know.

Cheers to y'all for banding together! I'm an avid homebrewer with aspirations of joining the industry in Texas and have long dreamed of attempting to form a lobby to benefit the craft brewing industry. I can't tell y'all just how happy I am that this day has come. I currently work in law enforcement and am searching for a job right now within the Texas state government, and I sincerely hope that I can find myself in a position beneficial to you and your cause.
