What a Crock! The author of Beer, Tx, Ronnie Crocker breaks down The One Pot Showdown
30 cooking teams, one winner. That about sums up the One Pot Showdown held annually at the brewery. 2010 was the first year it was at our new location at 2000 Lyons Ave and your favorite Houston beer blogger, Ronnie Crocker, was there to take in the sites and sounds and food and beer. Follow the link for the full wrap up or just watch the video below about the champion's recipe.
The good folks from Photo Con Queso came out to our One Pot Showdown at the brewery this year with photo booth in tow. A lot of folks took a lot of pictures and had them printed out on site. If you want to see the entire 798 picture gallery you can click the link below and you can also print pics from there. Who knows, you just might be IN one of those pictures. Cheers!
Beer. It's good and now it's good FOR you. That's what a Harvard study says. So watch this report from Christi Myers at KTRK and go out and buy some Lawnmower or Amber Ale. Your prostate could depend on it.
German scientists found hops helped protect rats from prostate cancer. Weather it works in humans or not is unclear, but it gives folks a new excuse to drink beer.

The Saint Arnold Video News: Divine Intervention Edition
DIVINE RESERVE NO. 7 DETAILS
We are now going to be releasing Divine Reserve No. 7 starting Tuesday, September 30 in Houston. Our distributor sustained some significant damage and was closed most of last week. They lost quite a bit of product, but fortunately not in the beer cold box where our cases are kept. Also, not all the stores that would receive Divine Reserve were open last week to confirm orders and it is possible that not all of them will be open yet this week. Thus, we decided it would be prudent to move the release date back one week. Divine Reserve No. 7 will still be released Tuesday, September 23 in Austin, DFW and San Antonio.
If weeks of Hurricane stress has you reaching for the bottle, may we here at Saint Arnold brewing company suggest said DR-7. In this edition of the Saint Arnold Video News you'll meet Austin homebrewer Kerry Martin, the gentleman responsible for the recipe and for part of the labor that made DR7 possible.
The good folks over at Fox 26 are definitely in the good graces of the Patron Saint of Brewers after inviting us into their studios twice in the month of March. We talked about our St. Pat's donegal beard contest and cooked with Saint Arnold beers. Here are highlights from both episodes of the My Fox Houston Live program.
You can watch current episodes of the show live at 4:00 PM weekdays by heading here: http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/
The Saint Arnold Video News - One Pot Winners Edition!!!!!
On January 27, 2008 30 brave cooking teams made Saint Arnold history. They all battled to be the first ever champ of the Saint Arnold One Pot Showdown and to have their recipe crowned as the best tasty treat to include Saint Arnold beer. In this edition of the Saint Arnold Video News, Lennie Ambrose meets The Carnies and finds out exactly what a UFO is.
Cookie Dough
2 Sticks of Butter
1 Cup White Sugar
1/4 Cup Pale Malt Syrup
1/4 Cup St. Arnold Winter Stout (plus a couple bottles more to enjoy while you wait) or Brown Ale can substitue
1 Egg
1 Tsp. Vanilla
2 Cups Flour (+ additional for rolling)
1 Tsp. Salt
1 Tsp. Cinnamon
1/4 Tsp. Nutmeg
1/4 Tsp Baking Soda
1/2 Tsp. Baking Powder
1-1/2 Cups Oats
3/4 Cup Chocolate Chips & Butterscotch Chips (Any Ratio of the two totaling 3/4 cup, i.e. 3/8 cup each)
Beer Batter
2 Cups Flour
1 Egg, Beaten
1 Tsp. Salt
1 Tsp. Baking Powder
~1-1/2 Cups St. Arnold Winter Stout or Brown Ale
Dough
1. Begin by creaming the sugar and butter together with a mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy.
2. Turn off the mixer and then add in the malt syrup, stout, egg, and vanilla. Mix until incorporated.
3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, and baking powder.
4. While the mixer is going alternate adding the flour and oats to the butter/sugar mixture and mix until everything is incorporated (be sure to scrape down the sides).
5. On low speed or by hand, mix in the chips until thoroughly incorporated.
6. Chill cookie in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
Batter
1. With a fork or whisk, mix all the dry ingredients until thoroughly incorporated.
2. Add the beer and beaten egg and mix until no large lumps appear. The mixture will have some pea-sized lumps in it but should have nothing bigger.
3. Adjust the amount of beer as necessary to achieve a consistency of thin pudding or pancake batter. It will vary based on humidity outside and size of the egg, etc.
4. Allow batter to sit for 10 minutes before using.
Fried Cookie Dough
1. Take chilled cookie dough and form into a disc a little less than 2 inches in diameter and about 1/2 an inch thick.
2. Roll in flour until completely covered and dust off the excess.
3. Dip discs into beer batter and cover completely. Remove with a fork or slotted spoon to drain the excess batter. Be sure that the dough is completely covered by batter otherwise it will ooze and boil out during cooking and you will have a hollow sphere of batter and dirty oil.
4. Fry in 375 F peanut or canola oil for 3 minutes or until golden brown and delicious.
5. Enjoy with your remaining St. Arnold beer.
Saint Arnold Video News goes to the Great American Beer Festival!
The Great American Beer Festival is a celebration of American brewing, with over 400 breweries pouring nearly 1900 different beers over the course of the three day festival. It's also America's premier brewing contest, with nearly 2800 entries competing for only 222 medals. Every brewer dreams of collecting a GABF medal. Saint Arnold has had the honor of collecting ten medals over the course of the past nine years, but never a gold medal. Join Brewery Production Manager Bev Blackwood, Brewer Michael Harris, Controller John Biesmann, members of the Saint Arnold Army and a cast of thousands for an insider's view of the Great American Beer Festival.
For most, an afternoon on the links means grabbing a frosty beverage (official Saint Arnold beers are highly recommended for this), hitting a ball, and then chasing said ball in the weeds. This year, Tour pro Roland "The Brewmaster" Thatcher has had other golfers chasing him however with good ol' Saint Arnold sitting right on his shoulder the whole way. Lennie Ambrose finds out Roland's favorite beer among other things in this edition of The Saint Arnold Video News.

Well in this edition of The Saint Arnold Video News, Bev Blackwood let's Lennie Ambrose know that there is nothing plain or old about this wonderous flower.
Dictionary.com defines the word stout as, "strong of body, hearty, sturdy". It also defines the word divine as, "heavenly, celestial or surpassing excellence". In this edition of The Saint Arnold Video News, Lennie Ambrose gets the low down from brewer Sam Wright on how he and his cohorts put together those two words for a supremely satisfying Divine Reserve 5.
